Adriane Foss, a native of New Bern, N.C., previously served as the Fort Knox community relations officer, began her career in journalism more than 15 years ago. Before joining the Army, Foss worked as a freelance reporter for the New Bern Sun Journal while attending Craven Community College.
She joined the Army in 1996. She served as a photojournalist for the Indianhead, the newspaper of the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea.
She also served as a general assignments reporter and photographer before becoming the (Soldier, and later GS civilian) associate editor for Fort Knox's Turret newspaper. Foss became the editor of the Bavarian News in Grafenwoehr, Germany, in 2006 and the editor of The Outlook in Vicenza, Italy, in 2009.She has earned numerous Army and civilian journalism awards. Foss spent her junior year in 1987 with the Education Foundation for Foreign Study as an international exchange student in Aachen, Germany, where she developed her love of travel. She is a movie buff who loves trivia, reading and spending time with her family. Foss and husband Jeremy have three children.
Johnson joined the APG News staff in April 1999. She retired from the U.S. Army in 1994 and earned a bachelor's degree in communication arts from Austin Peay State University. Johnson is the first APG News contract photojournalist to receive awards in journalism and photography.
She holds two Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association awards for feature writing (2005 and 2006); a Department of the Army 'Significant Achievement in Journalism' award (2004); a DA Office of the Chief of Public Affairs Journalist Award (2003); Keith L. Ware Journalism awards for commentary and photography (2001, 2002, 2003);); and the National Guard Association of Maryland Media Award (2000).
Johnson won her third MDDC award during the 2010 MDDC Editorial Contest for her Critical Thinking commentary titled, "Waiting For Obama," which appeared in the Jan. 29, 2009 edition. Johnson has two grown sons, one daughter-in-law and five grandchildren.
Ponder joined the APG News staff as a contract photojournalist in January 2008. This is her first job as a photojournalist since graduating college in 2007. She received a Bachelors of Arts in public communication and a Bachelors of Science in business administration at Columbia Union College, Washington, D.C., earning cum laude in both degrees.
While attending college, Ponder worked in the Marketing and Communications Office for the school, where she wrote news articles for the school's Web site, photographed campus events and produced a weekly newsletter. In 2007 she was the Media Relations Director for Tastes of Takoma, a student-planned community event sponsored by the school. That same year, she was awarded Best Public Relations Research Project and Best Photo Showing Action by her college's communication department.
Ponder was also an active member of several honors clubs on campus. In her freshman year she was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society for freshman, and was selected to join Who's Who Among Students, an honors program. In her junior year she joined Alpha Chi, which is limited to the top 10 percent of an institution's juniors and seniors. She was also a member of the Columbia Collegiate Chorale, and had the unique opportunity to sing with her choir at Carnegie Hall in 2004. Ponder's childhood was spent living in rural parts of Oklahoma, where she developed an early love for reading and writing. Her love for writing continued into her adulthood; she plans to pursue a career in the publishing industry.
Pentz joined the APG staff in December 2005. He brings his creative eye to the paper as graphic designer and webmaster. Pentz has an associate of arts degree in mass communications from Harford Community College and an E-Commerce Specialist Certificate from Johns Hopkins University Computer Career Institute in Web design. In addition to his redesign of the APG News, Pentz won five first place Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association awards.
